Joseph was a blacksmith in Plymouth and Plympton, MA. He took guardianship
of his Uncle Phillip, as Phillip was incapable of taking care of himself. This was recorded at a town meeting held at Bridgewater
8 May, 1685.

"The towne of bridgwater being met together by order of the govers warant upon the: 8th of may 1685:
did agree that the select men decon willis Samuel Edson senior Lieuftenant Hayward should agree with Joseph Washbourn about
his uncle Philip Washborn and take bond of him for the secureing of the towne from any charge about him for his maintainenance
and he was willing to give bond as he said"
