The surname FUSELIER had it's
inception from Louis IX known as St. Louis of France. They made all the guns and cannons for the King of France, hence the
name Fuselier because gun in French is "Fusel."
The family name originally was Fuselier de la Claire
and as late as 1850 they used their full name on their marriage certificates and official papers. Later the de la Claire was
dropped and just Fuselier was used.
The Fuselier name appears to be occupational in origin. Research indicates that
it can be associated with the French, meaning, " one who was a musketeer."
FUSELIER Coat of Arms - It is officially documented
in Rietstap Armorial General. The original decription of the arms is as follows: "D'Or A La Fasce D'azur, Ch. De Trois Fleurs
D'Or Et Acc. De Trois Chaussetrapes De Sa." When translated the Blazon also describes the original colors of the Fuselier
arms as: "gold; A blue horizontal band charged with three gold flowers and accompanied by three black caltraps or horsetraps."
